Both Iran and Japan lost their day three matches at the World Grand Champions Cup – with it being Irans first and Japans third. The hosts have struggled this year and are seeking out their first win in the competition while Iran is hoping to bounce back from their loss.
The two teams have met twice before at the competition with Iran winning both, once in a sweep and the second in a five-setter.
For Iran, Ghara H. Milad Ebadipour has led the team in scoring with 47 points on 40 kills, two blocks and five aces. Amir Ghafour has also been a strong force for the team with 43 points. The Iranian squad is coming off their first loss against Brazil on day three after taking down Italy and Team USA in five-setters on days one and two. They will have to stay focused against Japan on day four to keep their medal contentions high.
Japan has had a less than wanted start at the competition, starting off 0-3. Masahiro Yanagida has led the squad with 38 points. They lost their next best player in Yuki Ishikawa as he came down with an injury after day two. The Japanese squad did pick up their first set win in the competition against Italy on day three.
