Former Louisville setter Kali Eaken has found a new home and is joining the Wichita State Women’s Volleyball program as a transfer. She will be in her final year of play come the fall of 2018 and joins another transfer headed to Wichita along with Michaela Putnicki, who comes via Penn State.
The Shockers might turn to Eaken to fill their setter void, after record-setting Emily Hiebert‘s eligibility was exhausted following her senior season with Wichita State.
As a redshirt sophomore in 2016, Eaken became the starting setter for Louisville and led the team with 8.72 assists per set. However, she was bested by a 207 transfer brought on by Louisville in Wilma Rivera for the starting gig and only appeared in 16 sets of action for a 24-7 Cardinals squad that made the NCAA Tournament.
In total for her three seasons played with Louisville, Eaken totaled 787 assists, 144 digs, 23 kills, 17 blocks and 15 aces in 95 sets of play.
A 5’10” setter originally from Kansas City, Missouri, Eaken originally attended Kansas State after she was the Gatorade Kansas Volleyball Player of the Year at Bishop Miege High School. She redshirted in year one and eventually transferred out to Louisville where she spent the past three seasons.
Wichita State is coming off one of its best seasons in school history, going 29-4 and earning the #16 seed for the NCAA Tournament. That allowed them to host for the first time in the opening rounds, where they eventually fell in the second match.
