WACO, Texas – In a match that had major NCAA seeding implications, Baylor snuffed out any chance of Iowa State hosting on the first weekend of the NCAA tournament with their second-straight sweep of Iowa State at the Ferrell Center Saturday afternoon, 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-17). It was the first season sweep that Baylor had on Iowa State since 2004 and the first time Iowa State could not take a set off of Baylor in a season since 2001.

Baylor was led offensively by one of their regular suspects, Yossiana Pressley, with 14 kills, hitting .290 on Saturday. Aniah Philo added 13 kills, hitting .320, with 6 digs and 2 blocks. Braya Hunt led all defenders with 12 digs on the match. Hannah Lockin led a very efficient offense (.302) with 40 assists, 3 blocks and 3 digs. Shelly Fanning added 9 kills with 7 digs and a match-high 5 blocks.

For Iowa State, barring a favorable view from the NCAA committee, eliminates an opportunity for the Cyclones to host on opening weekend of the NCAA tournament in December. They were led offensively by Alexis Conaway with 10 kills, 5 digs and 2 blocks. Monique Harris led the .192 offense with 30 assists, 7 digs and 3 blocks. Libero Hali Hillegas led all Cyclones with 11 digs.

WACO, Texas — No. 24 Baylor volleyball (20-5, 10-2 Big 12) took its second consecutive sweep over No. 19 Iowa State (17-5, 7-4 Big 12) Saturday afternoon at the Ferrell Center, 25-19, 25-22, 25-17.

Baylor has now swept the Cyclones for the first time since the 2004 season and swept every set for the first time since 2001. BU has won 12 consecutive sets in conference play.

Yossiana Pressley led all players with 14 kills on a .290 attack effort, followed by Aniah Philo with 13 kills on a .320 hitting percentage. Braya Hunt had a career-high 12 digs in the back row to lead all players.

Hannah Lockin recorded her 1,000th assist of the season and finished the match with 40.

The Bears hopped out to an early lead after a solo block from Lockin to force an early timeout. BU held off a late Cyclone run as Camryn Freiberg helped BU seal the set for the early advantage, 25-19.

BU and ISU went back and forth in the second set and climbed back from a 14-12 deficit to take the 18-16 lead after back-to-back Cyclone hitting errors. BU held the lead for the rest of the set, winning 25-22.

The Bears tangled with ISU for the second consecutive set, tying eight times before a 16-13 BU lead forced an Iowa State timeout. Behind serving from Pressley and Shelly Fanning, BU cruised to the 25-17 third-set win and the sweep.

WACO, Texas – No. 19 Iowa State fell to No. 24 Baylor 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-17) Saturday afternoon at the Ferrell Center. The loss drops the Cyclones to 17-5 on the season and 7-4 in Big 12 play. The win improved the Bears to 20-5 on the campaign and 11-2 in league play.

The Cyclones were led by 10 kills from Alexis Conaway, while Jess Schaben had eight. Hali Hillegas led the back row with 11 digs, with Monique HarrisGrace Lazard and Avery Rhodes each posting three blocks.

First Set: Baylor 25 Iowa State 19
The Cyclone defense struggled to contain the BU attack early, as the Bear raced out to a 10-5 advantage. ISU struggled to find the answers to slow down the Bears’ offense, as BU finished the first set hitting .424. Despite going on a 5-0 run with the Bears on set point, Baylor moved ahead 1-0 when Camryn Freiberg tooled the block to make it 25-19.

Second Set: Baylor 25 Iowa State 22
The teams exchanged 4-0 runs early in the set before settling into a battle. The Cyclone defense was much better, holding the Bears to a .069 hitting in the set. However, the visitors gave away too many free points, committing seven service errors in the set. BU went on a 7-2 run to make the Cyclones’ 16-15 lead into a 22-18 Bears advantage. Baylor made their lead 2-0 when Yossiana Pressley got her 10th kill of the match at 25-22 Bears.

Third Set: Baylor 25 Iowa State 17
The first half of the set played out evenly, but the Bears were able to continue to carry the momentum on to complete the sweep. The Cyclones got ahead 12-11, but the home team was able to rip off a 7-1 run to move ahead 18-13. There was no path back into the match for ISU, as the Bears completed the sweep when Freiberg to her sixth kill of the day at 25-17.
