The 8th-ranked Lewis University Flyers topped MIVA foes from across the state at Quincy on Friday, winning 3-0.

Lewis gave up only 40 points in 3 sets, and held Quincy to -.066 hitting on the day – though the Hawks did show a little spark in the last set, pushing Lewis to 19-18 before giving up 6-straight points to finish the game.

It only took 29 kills for Lewis to win, led by 11 from Mitch Perinar on .588 hitting. That’s the second time this season he’s hit over .500. The rest of the Lewis scoring came from 7 blocks and 7 aces. More importantly, Lewis only had 11 errors at the service line – that’s a season-low in an area where the team has struggled all season long.

Quincy’s top scorer was Jarrod Kelso, who had 6 kills (4 errors, 11 swings, .182). Shane McAdams had 2 aces for Quincy.

Romeoville, Ill. – The No. 8 Lewis University men’s volleyball team hit a robust .389 (29 kills, 8 errors, 54 attacks) in the 25-11, 25-11, 25-18 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association sweep over Quincy University at Neil Carey Arena on Friday (Feb. 3).

Lewis redshirt sophomore opposite hitter Mitch Perinar (Channahon, Ill./Minooka) finished with a match-high 11 kills, four block assists and a hitting percentage of .588 (11-1-17). Quincy finished with 19 kills for the entire match and hit -.066 (19-24-76) as a team.

With the win, Lewis improves to 7-2 on the campaign and 2-1 in MIVA action, while the Hawks fall to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Lewis sophomore setter Matt Yoshimoto (Ventura, Calif./Adolfo Camarillo) dished out 26 assists, while redshirt sophomore libero Michael Simmons (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) registered a match-high eight digs in the victory.

Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 4), as the Flyers welcome Lindenwood to Neil Carey Arena for a 7 PM first serve.

QUINCY, IL. — The Quincy University men’s volleyball team was on the road Friday (Feb. 3) to take on the Lewis Flyers in MIVA competition. The Hawks fell to the Flyers 25-11, 25-11, 25-18. Lewis got off to a 4-0 run to open the first set and the Hawks were unable to get in rhythm to make a comeback in the opening set.

The second set started just like the first set. Lewis opened again on a 4-0 run before David Siebum (St. Louis, MO./St. John Vianney) was able to stop the run with a kill. Lewis committed only one hitting error in the second set and used a 12 Quincy hitting errors to win the second set 25-11.

The Hawks and the Flyers battled in the third set as Quincy (3-5, 1-1 MIVA) looked to extend the match to the fourth set. Quincy trailed by 19-18 in the third set before the Flyers went on 6-0 run to secure the three set victory.

Lewis (7-2, 2-1 MIVA) was tough at the net with seven blocks. The Flyers also had seven aces in the three sets. Jarrod Kelso (Hillard, OH./Hillard Darby) led the Hawks with six kills, Jacob Sheets (Arnold, MO./Seckman) also added four kills for QU.

The Hawks finish up their road trip by taking on Loyola Chicago Saturday (Feb. 4) in MIVA play.
