Portland State will have help from three transfers as right side Brooke Imirie, middle blocker Whitney Turner and outside hitter Toni McDougald join the Vikings for the 2017 season.
McDougald comes to Portland after posting 2.17 kills per set and eight double-digit kill efforts at Texas Tech as a rookie in 2016. The outside hitter managed a season-best 13 kills three times and hit .400 or better on three occasions, while playing in 25 matches, including 15 starts. As a prepster at Cherry Creek High School in Denver, Colorado, McDougald earned all-state, all-district and all-conference accolades, while racking up 619 career kills. The 2015 Cherry Creek Volleyball Player of the Year was a three-year varsity starter.
Imirie and Turner, both redshirt sophomores, come to Portland after spending two years at UCF in Orlando.
Imirie, a two-time American Athletic Conference All-Academic honoree, played in eight matches for the Golden Knights in 2016, recording one kill and one block. A two-year letterwinner at Westwood High School in Austin, Texas, managed 1.9 kills and 0.8 blocks per set for the Warriors, while earning second team all-district accolades.
Turner also saw limited time on the court in Orlando, playing in just one set in 2016 after redshirting her true freshman campaign in 2015. A four-year letterwinner at Central Catholic High School in Troutdale, Oregon, returns home to thet state which saw her garnered a pair of second team all-conference accolades. Turner garnered second team all-state tournament team honors as a senior while leading her team to the Oregon 6A state title.
Portland State returns three seniors and six juniors from the 2016 team which went 17-12 overall. The Vikings kick off their 2017 campaign at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego.
