Brazilian fans can now breathe calmly. After an underwhelming VNL performance, things were not looking much better ahead of the soon-to-come World Championship. But all of that changed within a day, as Fernanda Garay, the team’s best outside-hitter, agreed to rethink her retirement and once again join the team for at least one more go round. Here is a transcript of the video her team, Uberlândia, uploaded on its official Instagram page:

“I would like to happily share with you my call-up for Brazil’s national team. After the end of Superliga, i needed some time with my family to rest, travel, and recharge my batteries for next season. I wasn’t expecting the call up, but José Roberto Guimarães called me on the phone and said that he believed that even though there is only a short time left for the WCH, I will be able to get ready on time. I am very motivated and full of energy and ready to help the team with all my heart.”

The Olympic Champion Garay is one of the best players in the world currently. Her addition alone is enough to make Brazil a title favorite. It’s the only accolade that Brazil’s female volleyball team is yet to win in its very prolific history.
