University of Tennessee at Martin will add six new playersto their roster in this upcoming 2017 season. Head Coach, Jaclynn Yocum, announced the addition of three transfer student-athletes as well as three upcoming freshman will suit up with the Skyhawks for next season.
Brooke Gyoir, a junior 5’4 defensive specialist, is transferring from Owens Community College in Perrysburg, Ohio to join the Skyhawks in Tennessee.
Gyoir is an All-American and former Ohio Community College Athletic Association Player of the Year in 2016, becoming the first non-offensive player to win this award since 2009. With a perfect 28-0 record in conference twice, Gyori helped Owens Community College win a national third place finish in the 2016 NJCAA Tournament.
Head Coach Yocum is ready for Gyori’s consistent ball control and quick defense to enter the gym in 2017 stating that Gyori dominates in high-pressure situations.
Gyoir lead her former team with 736 digs racking up 4.91 digs per set (ninth nationally) and stacked up 61 aces in 2016. Reaching double-digit digs in 38 matches and over 20 digs in a dozen games, Gyori earned first team All-OCCAC, first team All-Regional XII and Region XII All-Tournament Honors as a freshman.
