According to sportal.bg, the Russian Volleyball Federation (VFV) has made changes to marketing rules in relation to the Russian Championship.
Now, all Super League clubs are required to have a social media specialist working for the organization. Not only do they need to have a social media specialist, there’s requirements as to what social media affiliations clubs need to have.
It’s mandatory now that all clubs have profiles on major social networking sites such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and a social media site used primarily in Russia called VKontakte. According to synthesio.com VKontakte is Russia’s largest social network.
Teams are also required to maintain a Youtube channel.
There are currently 14 teams in the Russian Superleague that will all be required to follow these new social media rules.
Business Online reported that “the clubs have to use social networks to publish up-to-date information about the team, the Super League and the volleyball, and also to create positive emotions for the fans.”
As social media has boomed in recent years it’s been used by athletes individually as a self-promotional tool as well as a way to interact with fans. Teams primarily use social media to boost their fan-base by sharing information and interacting directly with fans.
