SEC: Kentucky, LSU Win in Four at Home

Kentucky stayed perfect in SEC play and won its eighth straight match with a four-set win over Tennessee. Meanwhile, LSU earned its first conference win of the season, topping Georgia 3-1. Alabama played a non-conference match against instate foe Alabama State, winning via sweep.

• Kentucky outhit Tennesee .398 to .156 in the match and boasted a 64-40 advantage in kills and 6-1 lead in aces.
• Kentucky hit .438 or better in the three sets it won, including a .552 effort in Set 2. Tennessee outhit the Wildcats .308 to .211 in Set 3.
• Four Wildcats turned in 10 or more kills led by Leah Edmond‘s 17. Alli Stumler (13), Caitlyn Cooper (13) and Brooke Morgan (10) joined her. Cooper hit at a .684 clip (13-0-19), while Stumler just missed a double-double with nine digs. Kendyl Paris put up a team-best five blocks.
• Madison Lilley was all over the stat sheet with 50 assists, nine digs, six kills, four aces, two blocks and a .750 hitting effort of her own for Kentucky.
• Lily Felts turned in eight kills and eight digs to lead the Vols. Erica Treiber, Raquel Perinar and Danielle Mahaffey added seven putaways each. Mahaffey hit .538 to lead the team (7-0-13).
• Cooper notched five kills and two blocks in the final stanza as Kentucky built a 8-2 advantage never looked back, leading by as many as 13 at 22-9. Kills by Morgan and Stumler ended the night.

Notables

• LSU put an exclamation point on its first SEC win of the year, hitting at a .484 clip with just one error in Set 4.
• For the match, LSU outhit Georgia .250 to .128. The Tigers also edged the Bulldogs in kills (56-55) and blocks (7-5). Georgia outserved LSU 5-1 in aces.
• Taylor Bannister managed a 19-kill, 15-dig double-double to pace LSU. Milan Stokes also added double-digit kills with 12. Jacqui Armer put up a team-best four blocks to go with eight putaways.
• Majesti Bass (16), Rachel Ritchie (15) and T’ara Ceasar (15) made up the Georgia offense. Ceasar also added 21 digs, while setter Meghan Donovan notched a 47-assist, 10-dig double-double. Bass put up a team-best five blocks, while hitting .424.
• Bannister registered five kills in the final stanza, including one to set up LSU’s first match-point try at 24-17. The Tigers led by as many at six (16-10) before the putaway. A hitting error kept the set going momentarily, before Stokes issued the final blow.

Notables

• Alabama produced a dominant victory over their instate foes out of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, besting the Lady Hornets in kills (41-26), hitting efficiency (.274 to .069), aces (5-2) and blocks (9-3).
• Alabama is now 5-0 against instate foes in 2018, including wins over Samford (Sept. 11), South Alabama (Sept. 14) and Auburn (Sept. 23, Oct. 7).
• The Crimson Tide is now 17-0 all-time against Alabama State.
• Ginger Perinar paced Alabama with 12 kills on a team-best .381 hitting effort. Doris Carter and Hayley McSparin added eight kills apiece. Carter also notched a team-best four blocks.
• For Alabama State, Krysta Medearis downed eight kills, while Kaitlynn Stoker added six.
• It was a two-point game in the early stages of Set 3 at 8-6, but it was nearly all Crimson Tide from there as Alabama ended the night on a 17-3 run. Alabama scored seven in a row to close out the match, winning it on a Mahalia Swink putaway.
