Virginia Tech new head coach, Jill Lytle Wilson, announced today on hokiesports.com that the former Duke associate head coach John Wasielewski will join the Hokie coaching staff.

Wasielewski is no stranger to the ACC as he coached the past 18 years at Duke and helped lead the team to 12 NCAA Tournament appearances and 4 ACC championships. He has coached over 17 All-Americans, 4 ACC Players of the Year and over 20 All-ACC honorees. Also, Wasielewski was on staff for 4 of the ACC Coach of the Year awards and 4 East Region Coach of the Year awards.

Jill Lytle Wilson just joined the Hokie volleyball program back in December herself and says she is very excited to add Wasielewski to the team.

“This is a huge day for Virginia Tech volleyball,” said Wilson. “I’m thrilled for our team, program and university to have John join our family. I have long respected John as a trainer, recruiter and most importantly as a person and friend.”

The Hokies went 13-18 last season overall and 8-12 in conference under head coach Chris Riley and were left ranked #9 out of 15 in the ACC.

Wasielewski was the former head coach at St. Bonaventure from 1992-1998 before he started his 18 year long commitment to Duke under head coach Jolene Nagel in 1999. Wasielewski played college volleyball at Penn State where he was in the Final Four in 1987 and 1989 and was the student assistant for the women’s program in 1989 when they won the Big Ten Championship.

John and his wife Jennifer Wasielewski have two children, Jack and Jenna, and now will have to switch their Blue Devil gear for Hokie orange and maroon.
