The teams playing in the quarterfinals in the 2017 African Men’s Volleyball Championship have been decided after today’s match between Cameroon and Nigeria in Cairo, Egypt. Due to the Nigerian team having plane issues arriving, their match with Cameroon was supposed to have been played on Sunday, the 22nd. This meant that all three teams in Pool C were still alive for the quarterfinals after the results on the 24th.

In Pool A on the 24th, DR Congo beat Niger in straight sets 3-0 to advance to the quarterfinals as the 2nd placed team. They would face the winner of the Algeria vs. Rwanda match in Pool D. Algeria swept Rwanda 3-0 to win Pool D. Rwanda will face Egypt in the Quarterfinals.

In Pool B, Tunisia swept Ghana 3-0 to clinch 1st in the pool. Ghana was still alive, but needs Libya to lose in less than 5 sets to make the quarterfinals. Libya won the first two sets, to get them to 4 points and Ghana was stuck on 3 points. Libya finishes in 2nd place and advances to the quarterfinals with Tunisia. Tunisia would face 2nd place in Pool C, while Libya would face the Pool C winners.

On the 24th, for Pool C, Morocco defeated Nigeria in 4 sets, which set up the possibility of a 3-way tie with 1 win and 1 loss, and also a tie at 4-4 on sets ratio. Going into the final day, the 25th, Cameroon was ahead on points ratio over Morocco who had finished their matches. Nigeria was without a match win, but with a straight set win, it could see them win the pool. Cameroon won the first set which went to extra points 26-24. Cameroon took the second set comfortably 25-20 to clinch 1st in Pool C and give Morocco 2nd place as a five set win for Nigeria would only get them to two points, while Morocco was already at 3 points. Cameroon plays Libya in the quarterfinals, while Morocco faces Tunisia on the 26th.
