SAB Volley Legnano’s financial crisis has forced the club to part ways with yet another athlete, this time Italian Giada Ceccheto, according to the team’s official website. Struggling to pay its players since the beginning of the season, it has already recently parted away with Americans Annie Drews (here) and Sonja Newcombe (here). The team now stands in the second-to-last place in A1’s standings with a 5-13 record.
The 27-year-old libero Ceccheto has spent all her professional career in Italy, switching to an and from its A1 and A2 leagues, enjoying stints in teams like Casalmaggiore, with which she won the 2015 Italian Supercup and the 2016 CEV Champions League. She has also enjoyed a few successful stints in beach volleyball as well.
She was quick to find a new club, as she was already announced by Volley Soveratto, of Italy’s A2 league, on the team’s official website. Here is what she had to say of her new home:
I am very happy to have arrived in Soverato; the negotiation was very fast and I found myself immediately on Sunday against Perugia where I think we did a very good game despite not knowing the girls, but we immediately found feeling, communication, so I’m very happy because it was important to bring the three points home and now we are preparing for the next game . I found a nice group and I’m finding it very well.
Soveratto currently occupies the 7th place of A2’s standings with a 15-7 record.

SAV Volley Legnano is not the only club that has been fighting financial problems, as Russian club, Dinamo Krasnodar has in large stretches in the past year or two been in financial turmoil that has forced them to not be able to pay their players for months on end.
