2017 FIVB BEACH VOLLEYBALL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS – VIENNA

There was an Austrian showdown in the Lucky Losers portion of the 2017 Vienna Beach World Championships with Robin Seidl/Tobias Winter overcoming Thomas Kunert/Christoph Dressler 2-0, (25-23, 22-20).

Both pairs finished in third place in their pools, forcing them to compete in the Lucky Losers bracket.

The first set went way above the normal finishing point of 21, with an extended finish of 25-23 that went in favor of Seidl/Winter. The second set went slightly over the norm but still came to the wire, with Seidl/Winter securing their place in the elimination rounds with a 22-20 second set win.

Kunert/Dressler served the ball fairly evenly to their Austrian opponents, making eight errors on the serve. Kunert served the ball off the back line and in the net three times each, while Dressler was more accurate. On the attack, Dressler found the sand with a cross shot while Kunert went more line.

Seidl/Winter didn’t miss a single serve in the match, serving more heavily at Kunert. Winter found a lot of success on the attack by going down the line and cross. Seidl used a mixture of shots when he wasn’t up at the net blocking.

The win brings Seidl/Winter into the Round of 32 while Kunert/Dressler are eliminated from the tournament, finishing in 33rd place.
