Former pro Jon Stubbe has been announcing beach volleyball for many years. His daughter Joy observed this and at age seven caught the bug, she did not only want to play beach volleyball, but to be the best.
Now the story has come full circle as Jon has the pleasure of announcing his daughter’s matches on the FIVB World Tour. He says the first time he announced her, however, was special as it came at the Dutch national championships, but each recognizes they have a job to do before reconvening for a post-match hug.
Joy Stubbe and partner Jolien Sinnema are representing the Netherlands and recently finished first at the tournament in Utrecht on June 11 and in Vlissingen May 28 in the home country. The pair earned fifth place at the Xiamen three star on April 23 and finished 17th in events in Moscow, Rio and Fort Lauderdale.
At this week’s three star event at The Hague, Stubbe/Sinnema defeated Kolosinska/Gruszczynska of Poland (21-12, 21-16) in the main draw before falling to Switzerland’s Betschart/Huberli (21-19, 21-14) and countrywomen Meppelink/Keizer (21-17, 21-11).
