Blizzard Volleyball ran their way through the first event of the National Volleyball Association to take gold in a three-set sweep over Academy United at the 2017 NVA Las Vegas Showcase.

Blizzard had a stacked team including former U.S. Men’s National Teamer Russell Holmes who was a strong force for the team over the weekend. Despite Holmes having the name recognition, Ryan Meehan was the overall best player on the court in the finals, earning the finals MVP honor.

Being the winners of the event, the club took home the grand prize of $20,000 for claiming the gold.

The NVA was first announced just a month ago with eight teams allotted for the team to begin this coming 2018 season. The 2017 NVA Las Vegas Showcase was the first event on the docket to get people engaged and excited about the upcoming league. Amid the competition, the NVA also announced the upcoming events for the 2018 season, with three guaranteed.

Congratulations to @BlizzardVolleyball for winning the first ever #NVAUSA Title. Coach Jon Xie and Coach Vince Rodriguez, great job preparing these men. The #NVA is looking forward to representing all 8 Teams in the next Professional Tournament January 27th and 28th hosted by Academy United • • Thank you to @mgmgrand & @unlv for hosting our showcase. S/O to the referee staff, the set up crew, and everyone else internal with the NVA. We will see you all at the next tournament!
