2017 FIVB VOLLEYBALL U20 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS – WOMEN

Both the United States and Brazil fought back from 0-2 deficits to take down their opponents on the final day of Pool C at the U20 World Championships.

Team USA finished the weekend with 2-1 record, taking down Serbia in five.

The United States dropped the first two sets of the match, with the second being a dominant showing for the Serbian side 25-10. They picked up their play in the next two sets, fight for every point to force the fifth set. The final set went into extra points with the American crew coming out on top 17-15.

Leading Team USA was Ronika Stone and Leah Edmond, who put down 15 points each in the win. Brionne Butler, a to-be University of Texas Longhorn, put down another 12 points on nine kills and three blocks. For Serbia, Katarina Lazovic put on a show with 32 points, though it was not enough to lift her team to a victory.

Brazil def. Cuba

Brazil used a steady block and their opponents errors to win a tough five-set match to top Pool C. Cuba went up 2-0 over the Brazilians early in the match, needing just one set to take the sweep. The Cubans let up in the third set, getting dominated 25-9 then 25-19 in the fourth, with the Brazilians forcing a fifth set. The final set was a tight match but ended in Brazil’s favor with 15-13 fifth set victory.

Glayce Kelly Tobias Vasconcelos led the Brazilian side with 19 points on 15 kills, three blocks and one ace while Diana Duarte Alecrim added another 15 points. For Cuba, Allama Cese Montalvo put down 19 points on 15 kills and four aces in the loss.
