21-year old Edinara Brancher has signed a one year contract with Barueri in Sao Paulo, choosing them over Rio, with whom she also negotiated, for next season. She leaves the club Sao Caetnao and becomes the 3rd big addition for Barueri this season.
Brancher was a member of the Brazilian team that beat Germany for gold at the Montreux Masters tournament earlier this month. She played in 2 sets and scored 3 points in the championship match. She was also on Brazil’s U18 team that won silver at the 2012 South American Championships and the 2013 World Championships. She will play on Brazil’s U23 team for this summer’s World Championships, and played in the senior national team’s friendly against the Dominican Republic earlier this year.
2016 was her breakthrough season as a senior professional. She started the year on the bench for Paulista, and by season’s end became one of the team’s primary players. She finished the season with 256 points, which ranked her 22nd in the league.
Now she joins Barueri – a team that won the Superliga Serie B last year to promote to the league’s top tier. With that advancement comes the financial freedom to add new stars.
The team has also added setter Naiane Rios, another young member of the Montreux-winning team; and middle blocker Fran Jacintho.
