The Toreros closed to within one on a pair of occasions, but were not able to get back to even. At 5-4, Gates was in on three scoring plays on a kill and two combo blocks with Sponcil to go with a USD error. With the score 13-10, a Buechler kill and back-to-back aces by Rogers gave the Bruins a 16-10 lead, prompting a USD timeout.

With Oregon and USC upsets, this UCLA team, Stanford and Washington, PAC-10 is looking highly formidable. Hopefully USD is just taking time to find its feet after the departures of Kramer and Schad. Hoping they won’t continue to hit this poorly for long stretches of the season.

Combined with a rebuilding year for much of the Big Ten, agree that the Pac-12 is going to have a big year. I think Big 12 has a better year too – and not just Texas.
