Carly Wopat, a middle blocker who played for the U.S. Women’s National Team at the 2016 Pan American Cup, plays professionally for Toray Arrows in Japan and was named the Best Spiker of the Japan’s V-League last week.
The 6’2 middle blocker from Santa Barbara, California, played at Stanford University where she majored in human biology and was named AVCA All-American First team in 2012 and 2013. She was a 3-time Volleyball Magazine All-American First Team pick from 2011-2013.
Wopat has been playing for her current team Torary Arrows since September 2016 in Otsu, Shiga, Japan and is currently the only American on the team. Toray Arrows plays in the V. Premier League. Toray Arrows is currently ranked 3rd in the league and recently just lost to #1 ranked NEC Red Rockets today 3-1 (25-20, 26-28, 22-25, 15-25).
On February 27, 2017 Wopat posted on her Instagram on receiving the Best Spiker award in the V-League and captioned, “Honored and very stoked to be the recipient of the Best Spiker Award for the Japanese V-league 2016-2017 season. A big thank you to my teammates for doing all that passing and setting stuff that comes before the spike, my coaching staff and trainers for helping me be my best and keeping me healthy, and all of you wonderful fans for your unwavering support. #gotoray“
