Chastang, Groover, Axner Recieve ASUN Weekly Nods

ATLANTA  – Kennesaw State’s Lauren Chastang & Karlee Groover and FGCU’s Dana Axner earned this week’s ASUN Conference Volleyball awards, as announced by the league office on Monday.

Chastang continues her breakout sophomore campaign, as she earns her third Player of the Week honor. Chastang helped the Owls remain undefeated in ASUN play by taking down previously unbeaten FGCU and Liberty. She recorded 36 kills, 4.50 kills/set, 3.38 digs/set and hit .317 this past week. She posted back-to-back double-doubles, including one of her best performances of the year with 23 kills and 11 digs, while hitting .372 against Liberty. For the year, Chastang is tied for the league lead in kills with 271 and is fourth in kill/set at 3.61.

Groover, who earns her first-ever Defensive Player of the Week award, stepped up her performance this past week helping Kennesaw State remain as the only unbeaten in the ASUN conference. Last week she totaled 43 digs, which an average of 5.38 digs/set, a full dig above her season average. In a win over previously unbeaten FGCU, Groover tallied a career-high 24 digs. This season, Groover ranks third in the ASUN in total digs with 309 and is fourth in digs/set at 4.12.

Dana Axner’s fantastic freshman campaign rolled on this past week, as she earns her third Freshman of the Week honor. She totaled 39 digs and an average of 4.88 digs/set. Axner is just three digs away from entering FGCU’s top-20 single-season digs list, and she’s just 19 matches into her career. She ranks near the top of the ASUN in digs this season, with 4.60 digs/set (second) 290 total digs (fourth).

– Is tied for the ASUN lead in kills with Carlyle Nusbaum with 271 and ranks fourth in kills/set at 3.61

– Registered a career-high 24 digs in a battle of unbeatens against FGCU on Friday
– Ranks third in the ASUN in total digs with 309 and fourth in digs/set at 4.12
