RECAP
Chaumont VB 52, the reigning champions of Ligue A, overcame a 25-16 setback in the first frame to defeat last season’s French Cup champions, GFC Ajaccio, in four sets.
The favorites were tested early as GFC Ajaccio came out strong and earned a decisive 25-16 victory in the first frame. Chaumont almost fell behind two sets to none, but managed to fight off several GFCA surges to win the second set by a narrow 25-23 margin. GFC Ajaccio setter, Toafa Takaniko, had to be replaced in that set due to an injury.
Chaumont used the momentum of set two and Takaniko’s injury to win sets three and four by comfortable margins of 25-13 and 25-20.
Both teams have begun Ligue A regular season play, with Chaumont defeating Nantes Rezé Métropole in four sets and GFC Ajaccio opening against Poitiers on Tuesday, October 17.
