Chile put up nine blocks in its final match at the U21 Pan American Cup, en route to a sweep of Barbados to claim sixth place in the event.

Bastien Fuentes posted 15 points in the 25-20, 25-18, 25-17 win. Fuentes managed 10 kills, three blocks and two aces to lead Chile. Vicente Madones added eight points, with seven kills and a block.

“We played better than yesterday,” Chile’s head coach Daniel Nejamkin said. “We made some mistakes during the game, but the most important was to finish with a win so I’m very happy.”

Carlos Cyrus (13) and Ashan Jordan (12) led the Barbados attack with double-digit point tallies. Ashan managed 11 kills and a block, while Carlos registered 10 kills, two blocks and an ace.

“Today we played better than against Guatemala, but anyway it was not enough.  They are not physically as well prepared as they should be – they can start, but they cannot be consistent and as technical as they should be…,” Barbados coach Julio Alberto Caballero said. “They have to be better to compete at this level; they showed that they played a better system against teams like Canada and Brazil.  Today it was different, you can see their performance is tired.”
