2017 FIVB BEACH VOLLEYBALL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS – VIENNA

Both teams came in third in their respective pools and had to fight through the Lucky Losers round of the 2017 Vienna Beach World Championships to advance in the tournament. China’s Fan Wang/Yuan Yue were able to escape a tough German team in three sets 2-1, (21-19, 18-21, 15-7).

Isabel Schneider/Victoria Bieneck fought back after a first set loss to the Chinese team but were unable to continue that momentum into the third set, dropping the match and finishing 33rd in the competition.

Wang/Yue kept their serves to their opponents fairly even however, slightly favored serving at Bieneck. The Chinese squad posted three aces against the Germans. On the attack, China used hard angle shots to trip up their competitors. Wang used shots going both to her right and left while Yue favored going to her left.

The German’s kept their serves even to the Chinese but mixed up their attacks to trip up their opponent. Wang set up a huge block in the front row to help the Chinese side in the match, with six blocks occurring in the final set.

The Round of 32 will begin play on August 2 with the top two teams in each pool, including the Lucky Loser winners and the top four third place finishers from pool play.
