2017 FIVB World Beach Tour – Xiamen

After two days of qualifying rounds at the 2017 FIVB World Beach Tour 3-star stop in Xiamen, China, the field for the Main Draw Round of 32 that begins on Friday is set. The men’s favorites Nicolai/Lupo from Italy will start their tournament at 4:00PM local time against Gerson/Zandbergen of Switzerland, while the top American pair of Trevor Crabb/Sean Rosenthal will begin at 12:20PM local time. Nicolai/Lupo are currently ranked 12th in the FIVB World Beach Rankings.

On the women’s side, one of Brazil’s new hotshot pairsBarbara/Fernanda, will play at 10:40AM local time on Thursday. Fernanda, the best spiker of the 2015 World Championships, and Barbara, owner of 23 international medals, are fighting for a qualification spot at this summer’s World Championships – which requires dipping down into 3-star tournaments (rather than the most elite 4 and 5 stars) both to pick up much-needed points and experience.

$150,000 in prize money is up for grabs in the tournament, including $8,000 per pair for the winning men’s and women’s teams.

The FIVB has put together a short highlight video based on the qualifying rounds:
