Czech club Kladno Volejbal has just announced in its official Facebook page that it has signed Czech legend David Koneckny to a contract to help with the team’s decisive playoff games in the Czech Championship and Czech Cup. This will be the first time he will play in his home-country after almost an entire decade. Koneckny, who has spent his last nine season with French powerhouse Tours Volley, is wildly considered to be one of the best Czech volleyball players ever.

Although 35 years of age, the 6’4″  high flyer Koneckny holds the rare distinction of having played in only two professional clubs for his entire career, Czech Republic’s Ostrava, and the before mentioned Tours. He reached a great deal of fame in France, winning 5 French Championships (2010 – Also MVP, 2012 – Also Best Spiker, 2013 – Also Best Spiker, 2014 – Also Best Spiker, 2015), 6 French Cups (2009 , 2010 , 2011 , 2013 , 2014 , 2015), 3 French Supercups (2012 , 2014 , 2015), and a CEV Cup (2017 – Also MVP). With the Czech national team, he played at the 2006 and 2010 FIVB World Championships. Sadly, the team did not qualify for the 2014 FIVB World Championship, after which Konecky retired.

He will debut for his new club in its second-leg match of Czech Cup quarterfinals against SK Labem. His squad won the first match 3-1.

In its domestic championship, Kladno currently sits in 2nd place of Extraliga’s standings with a 14-2 record.
