After captaining Team USA at the 2016 Olympic Games, David Lee transferred out of PAOK Thessaloniki VC to play with Turkey’s Ziraat Bankası Ankara for one season. After his sting in Turkey was over, he did not sign with any club, and had it not been for his participation in the NVA, Lee would have sat out the whole first half of the 2017-18 season.
But fans need not to worry anymore, as Lee has given an interview to Greek website Metrosport.gr stating that he wants to return to PAOK. Here are some tidbits from it:
There is nothing official yet, but it is true that I am in constant contact with PAOK’s people and we are discussing all the details of a possible return. Soon I believe there will be definite developments. My desire is to come back. But to be honest, it doesn’t depend solely on me, but mainly how PAOK’s people want to build the team.
At this moment I am absolutely available to PAOK. My experience in the team was fantastic. What I will never forget is PAOK’s fanatical followers who are incredible. Also, Thessaloniki is a very beautiful and hospitable city and all these are the reasons I want to go back.
Mr. Ritchie (PAOK’s coach) is really a legend of volleyball and I would like to work with him. As for the team, I saw the game with Halkbank and I can say that this year PAOK has a very strong roster.
If he does indeed come back, does it mean he will also think about playing for Team USA again? Fans are anxious for answers, as now 32-year-old Lee achieved various accolades for Team USA, which included a historic Gold medal at the 2008’s Olympic Games.
