Dynamo Moscow has announced in its official website that it has signed Czech captain Helena Havelkova to a contract, meaning that she’ll be following her boyfriend Georg Grozer into Russia. The 30-year-old 6’2″ outside hitter is transferring out of Italy’s Monza and is set to undergo her second stint in Russia, after having played with Dynamo Krasnodar during the 2012/13 season. She has also had successful stints in Poland, China, and Turkey. She won domestic titles in Italy with Busto Arsizio and Poland with Chemik Police.
Last season with Monza, Havelkova scored at a 3.15 points/set clip on 32.5% hitting. Even though her stats show that she is not that efficient of a scorer, she makes up for it at the receiving end, with a 39.2% excellency rate, which made her one of the best passers of Italy’s A1. Although some fierce critics may say that her best days are behind her, like when she was awarded the 2015 Champions League award, it’s safe to say that Dynamo’s interest in her services say otherwise. At her new club, Helena will find a team that finished its last regular season 16-2, good enough for second place, before finally going on to win the title against Dynamo Kazan in three games.
