Florida spends its third week at No. 1 in the AVCA Coaches’ Poll after posting home wins over Texas A&M and Georgia. The Gators will face their toughest test of the SEC season this week, when fellow Top 10 team Kentucky comes to Gainesville, Florida, on Sunday.
The remaining top five teams remained the same, although Penn State and Stanford swapped spots with the Nittany Lions moving to No. 2 just eight poll points ahead of the Cardinal.
No. 4 Nebraska stayed pat with wins over Michigan State and Iowa, and Texas held down the No. 5 position with a sweep of TCU.
Next up for the Nittany Lions is a home test against No. 10 Michigan State and vote-getter Michigan. Stanford will look to keep its hold atop the Pac-12 with road matches at UCLA and USC. Nebraska is primed for a meeting with Wisconsin and Purdue. The Longhorns face off with the Big 12’s lone other Top 10 team in Kansas on Wednesday in Lawrence and another Top 25 foe in Iowa State on Saturday.
The biggest movers in this week’s poll are the Michigan State Spartans, which jumped from 14 to 10, and the Utah Utes, which climbed from 17 to 13.
Washington dropped five spots from nine to 14 with a week 7 loss to the Utes, while Creighton’s loss to unranked Marquette slipped the Bluejays from 12 to 17. Wisconsin dropped from seven to 11 with a loss to the Spartans, while USC tumbled from 15 to 19 as the Trojans fell to unranked Arizona.
New to the AVCA poll this week are Cal Poly and Baylor, which moved from vote getter to No. 24 and No. 25 respectively. Michigan and Colorado fell out of the Top 25. Baylor registered a sweep of Iowa State last week to earn their spot and knock the Cyclones from 20 to 23. The ranking is the first AVCA listing for Baylor since 2009.
