Former Washington Huskies star outside hitter and libero Cassie Strickland has taken to her personal Instagram page to announce her fans that she will be joining Spain’s Haro Rioja Volley. The 5’8″ player, a full libero now, is transferring out of Finland’s WoVo Rovaniemi, and is set to undergo her sophomore professional season.

In total for her career at Washington, Strickland totaled 1,544 digs, 307 kills, 227 assists, 152 aces and 67 blocks. Her award list is lengthy too, as she was the 2014 Pac-12 Libero of the Year, All-Pac-12 in 2015 and a member of the AVCA All-America Honorable Mention team in 2015. Strickland was also an award-winning player in the sand, as she played with the Washington beach team as well. She graduated following the 2016 beach season (and 2015 indoor year).

At Haro Rioja, Strickland will join a club that has truly had its ups and downs in Spain’s Superliga recently. After debuting in 2008, it was already a league winner in the 2012/13 season, only to be relegated in 2017. After a year in Spain’s second division, it was promoted back to Superliga in 2018. Will it be able to keep itself afloat in Spain’s top division for good this time around?
