WASHINGTON, D.C. – Georgetown University’s volleyball team released its 2018 schedule on Tuesday. The Hoyas will take the court for the first time this season under new head coach Toby Rens.
Kicking off the campaign with a home exhibition match against perennial NCAA team and cross-town foe Howard on Friday, August 17, the Blue & Gray hits the road to take part in the Hyatt Regency Invitational, hosted by Georgia Tech, during the opening weekend of competition. The Hoyas take on Abilene Christian and Idaho State on Friday, August 24 before battling Winthrop and the host Yellow Jackets on Saturday, August 25.
Returning home, GU hosts its annual Georgetown Classic on August 31 and September 1, welcoming Penn, George Mason, Norfolk State and UNC Wilmington to the Hilltop. The Hoyas take on Norfolk State and Penn on Friday before facing George Mason and UNCW on Saturday to close out the tournament.
A midweek match at VCU in Richmond on September 4 leads into a weekend off before Georgetown returns to the friendly confines of McDonough Arena to host the GU/GW Tournament with fellow Ward 3 program George Washington. The Hoyas host Memphis on Friday, September 14 and both Alabama A&M and Hampton on Saturday, September 15.
Georgetown opens BIG EAST play at home against St. John’s on Wednesday, September 19 followed by a road tilt at Villanova on Saturday, September 22. The Hoyas play one final midweek match, a home contest against Seton Hall on Wednesday, September 26, before hitting the road for a four-match road stretch. A Midwest jaunt to Marquette on Friday, September 28, followed by a Windy City showdown with DePaul on Saturday, September 29 leads into October’s opening matches at Butler on Friday, October 5 and Xavier on Saturday, October 6.
Playing at home for the first time in nearly a month, GU hosts Creighton on Friday, October 12 and Providence on Saturday, October 13. The Hoyas then begin the back end of conference play on the road as they take on Seton Hall on Friday, October 19 and St. John’s on Saturday, October 20.
Five of Georgetown’s final seven matches will be played in the Nation’s Capital. The Blue & Gray welcomes Villanova on Friday, October 26, followed by home contests against DePaul on Friday, November 2 and Marquette on Saturday, November 3. A final road trip sends GU to Creighton on Friday, November 9 before returning to the East Coast to play at Providence on Sunday, November 11. The final weekend of regular season action pits the Hoyas against Xavier on Friday, November 16 and Butler on Saturday, November 17 at home.
The 2018 BIG EAST Championship will take place November 23-24 in Omaha, Nebraska, hosted by Creighton.
