Gstaad Major, nicknamed the “Major in the Mountains” has a special place in the hearts of Brazilian players. The city, up at 3500 ft, is home to about only 2500 inhabitants, with temperatures averaging 43 F. It’s safe to say that the small city is very different from most of Brazil’s tropical coastline metropolis. Maybe these novelties are why the “perfect” “doll-house like” atmosphere appeals so much to the volleyball tourists (globo.com):
“It’s a very small town, you look everywhere and you see mountains and snow. It looks like you’re living in a doll town. It is very perfect, specially when you have a beach volleyball tournament that everyone loves. The city is just a little street. I think it’s perfect. It’s one of my favorites. It’s already my third year here. This place brings peace. Every time we come here I get the feeling of ‘is this place really true?’. I think everyone needs to come here one day.” – Eduarda Lisboa
Gstaad is like a painting, it makes you want to spend the day taking photos.” – Maria Elisa
“This is a marvelous stage to play, with amazing views.” – Agatha Rippel
It goes to show that FIVB’s World Tour has stages for all tastes and preferences. From Switzerland to Moroccos, from Turkey to Korea, everyone gets to visit their dream place.
