Each week throughout the 2018 men’s volleyball season, we will take a look at the NCAA men’s volleyball statistical leaders. The first rankings of the season were released on Sunday.
UC San Diego’s Tanner Syftestad leads all players nationally in kills and points per set thanks in large part to back-to-back 20+ kill performances to open the season – he had 27 against McKendree and 22 against King (TN). He only played one set in the team’s 3-0 win over UC Merced and had only 2 kills, but his opening outputs were high enough to still keep him at the top of the rankings.
Penn State leads the nation in hitting percentage, thanks in large part to Calvin Mende hitting .629 individually. He has 23 kills and just 1 error on 35 kills so far this season. He’s also got 7 blocks playing out of the middle for the Nittany Lions.
