Asian Men’s World Qualifier

Pool A

China def. Qatar 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-22)

Iran def. Korea 3-0 (25-10, 27-25, 25-18)

After two days of matches at the Asian Men’s World Qualifier, China is in the driver’s seat with six points, following Thursday’s four-set win over Kazakhstan with a sweep of Qatar on Friday.

On Saturday, the Chinese will face a tough test in Iran, which was the only Asian team to compete in FIVB World League Group 1 play earlier this summer.

“In (the) Rio Olympic Games, Iran were among the top three of the best blocking efforts,” China coach Raul Lozano said. “So, the key to our win will be to adapt our operations to their blocking system.”

Iran and Kazakhstan have each played just one match so far in the round robin tournament, which will see the top two teams earn spots at the 2018 World Championships.

Iran 3, Korea 0

Playing in front of a home crowd of 6,000 fans, Iran made quick work of Korea to kick off its qualifying efforts.

Iran crushed Korea with its block in a 25-10 Set 1 beatdown. Korea bounced back in Set 2, hanging with the Iranians, only to be outdone 27-25 in the end. The Iranians closed out the victory with a 25-18 Set 3 win.
