Current FIVB President Ary Graça has been in office since 2012 and is due to stay at the post until 2024 after he was re-elected unanimously at the 5th FIVB World Congress in Buenos Aires. Prior to taking office, he was the executive Vice President and member of several commissions at the FIVB, as well President of the South American Volleyball Federation and the Brazilian Volleyball Federation.
Statements from the FIVB run counter to reports in the international volleyball media that claim he will step down voluntarily.
“For the avoidance of doubt, President Ary Graca was re-elected unopposed by the FIVB General Assembly in 2016 for a further 8 years. The president is only 2 years into his new mandate and has already achieved a huge amount including the launch of the innovative VNL earlier this year,” the statement reads. While the statement didn’t explicitly say that Graca would be serving out that 8 year term, a spokesperson for the FIVB said that its intent was to deny the rumor that he was leaving any time soon.
Graça’s time with the FIVB has been nothing but successful, as he has implemented ambitious goals to market the sport of volleyball as the ultimate family activity, and even tried to strengthen the institution’s relationships with USA Volleyball.
