After 2 years playing with 10th place Exprivia Molfetta in the Italian Serie A, Italian libero Daniele De Pandis will be joining the 2nd place Diatec  Trentino for the 2017/2018 season. The 6’0″ libero has excelled in serve receive, recording 779 perfect receptions over 115 matches, being awarded the title of best receiver in all of Italian Serie A.

Trentino head coach Angelo Lorenzetti is incredibly excited about the new addition, stating “I’m sure he can organize the reception, because he’s the best in the SuperLega and avoided a lot of direct aces. He can still grow in defense, it will take some time to make perfect the mechanism with the theme, but I can say I’m really glad he’ll play for us.”

In return, De Pandis is also excited about working with Lorenzetti, noting in his introductory press conference when asked about Lorenzetti’s previous kind words, “Obviously I am very pleased of his consideration; every time we’ve met he has always said beautiful things about me and far I’m very honored and encouraged. This is one of the reasons why I chose to sign with this Club.”

The 33 year-old De Pandis will compete with the 24 year-old Matteo Chiappa for playing time, but is expected to take the starting job if he can continue his strong performance in serve receive and continue to improve his defense. Trentino lost in the Serie A semi-finals last year to Lube Civitanova by a series score of 3-1.
