The first event of the Del Monte Italian Super Cup will be played at the Eurosuole Forum of Civitanova Marche. Lube Civitanova Cucine will take on Azimut Modena, while Diatec Trentino and Sir Safety Conad Perugia will round out the field.
New rules allow for teams from the Scudetto and Coppa Italia leagues to participate in the competition. The schedule will pit the winner of the Scudetto against the loser of Coppa Italia, while the Coppa Italia champion will take on the Scudetto runner up.
In cases like this year, where Lube and Trentino were finalists in both leagues the next and next best in the regular season standings will be added to the field. Perugia and Modena filled those spots for the 2017 edition.
The Del Monte Italian Super Cup will take place October 7-8. Azimut Modena took the 2016 title over Sir Safety Conad Perugia in five sets (25-22, 19-25, 25-22, 24-26, 17-15). Nemanja Petric of Azimut was the tournament MVP.
