Missouri State senior outside hitter Lily Johnson, Valparaiso junior middle blocker Sydney Bronner and Northern Iowa freshman outside hitter Jaydlin Seehase were the best in the Missouri Valley Conference last week, earning Player, Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week honors respectively.
Johnson notched 4.44 kills and 5.33 digs per set, while hitting at a .252 clip and adding four aces and five blocks against Bradley and Illinois State en route to her league record 13th career Player of the Week accolade. The Wildwood, Missouri, native notched her third 20/20 match of the season against the Braves on Friday, posting 22 kills and 21 digs. The senior nearly added another with a 27-dig, 18-kill double double against Illinois State on Saturday. Johnson also chipped in three aces and three blocks against the Redbirds.
Bronner garnered Defensive Player of the Week honors after putting up 1.75 blocks per set against Drake and Northern Iowa. The Frankenmuth, Michigan, native notched six stuffs and helped hold the Bulldogs to just a .096 hitting effort on Friday. The junior put up eight stuffs in a five-set battle with the Panthers on Saturday. All told, Bronner had a hand in 14 of the team’s 22 blocks on the week.
Seehase registered 2.55 kills per set on a .323 hitting effort as UNI posted wins over Drake, Loyola and Valparaiso. The Sumner, Iowa, native is the first Panther to earn Freshman of the Week honors since 2015. The outside hitter kicked off the week with 10 kills, two blocks and two aces, while hitting at a .381 clip in the sweep of Drake. She then chipped in six kills on a .308 hitting effort with one block in the 3-0 win over Loyola. The rookie closed out the week with 12 kills, three blocks and two digs, while hitting .290 against Valpo.
