University of the East’s star libero Kath Arado, the UAAP Season 77 rookie of the year, put up a stellar defensive display in her team’s upset 3-1 win against University of St. Tomas which included 32 excellent receptions and 28 digs. Her efforts won her UAAP’s Player of the Week Honors, something that doesn’t happen everyday for liberos.

Arado, who is a senior, thanked fans and said that her main goal is to change the way people see her team, which is struggling in the competition:

“From our first game this season, it was really in my mind the goal of changing the perception people have of our team. I want to change the way people look at UE, and this will happen.”

Her coach, Rod Roque, who recently was announced on the team due to Francis Vicente’s departure, was ecstatic with the news:

Kathy had a tough week, she was hurt. We kept asking her if she was okay, to which she said yes, but you could clearly see the pain in her face. Katky, you are not only number one in UAAP, you are number one in our hearts!

This was UE’s first win against UST since 1994, and the first time the team won back to back games since UAAP’s Season 74.
