United States Women’s National Team head coach Karch Kiraly sat down with the FIVB at the World Grand Prix and talked about the importance of coaches and the different roles they play for their team.
He said they must be teachers, so that may help everyone in their programs get better. They must be learners, in order to pick up what they don’t know and model learning for their players. And lastly, they must be leaders, in order to exemplify what they expect from their teams as well as guiding those who depend on them.
Kiraly, an Olympic gold medalist and professional volleyball player, took over as head coach of the United States women in 2012. He led the team to the FIVB World Championship in 2014 and to the bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Thus far at the World Grand Prix, the U.S. Women have won Pool B1, including a victory over reigning Olympic champions China, July 9.
