Americans Alix Klineman/April Ross and Brazil’s Ana Patricia Silva Ramos/Rebecca Cavalacanti Barbosa Silva made their way to the Yangzhou Four Star title match with three wins apiece on Saturday.
Klineman/Ross started the day with a Round 2 tiebreak win over fellow Americans Kelly Claes/Kerri Walsh Jennings (19-21, 21-16, 15-11). Next up, the team topped Latvia’s Anastasija Kravcenoka/Tina Graudina (22-20, 21-11) and then outlasted Canadians Sarah Pavan/Melissa Humana-Paredes (21-19, 25-27, 15-11) in the semifinals.
Ana Patricia/Rebecca made their way to the championship match with a trio of sweeps. The pair topped Poland’s Kinga Kolsinska/Katarzyna Kociolek in Round 2 before besting top seeded countrywomen Barbara Seixas de Freitas/Fernanda Alves for the second time at the tournament, following a tiebreak win in the Pool A title match with a sweep in Round 3 (21-15, 21-19). The Brazilians topped Americans Sara Hughes/Summer Ross 21-16, 21-18 in the semifinals.
Ana Patricia/Rebecca are looking for their second straight FIVB tour title, following a gold medal at the Qinzhou Three Star last weekend, while Klineman/Ross are trying for their first FIVB gold since winning the Hague Four Star on Jan. 7. The victor takes home $20,000 while the runnerup will earn $16,000.
Hughes/Ross will face Pavan/Humana-Paredes for the bronze medal and a $10,000 payday. The loser will earn $8000.
