ATLANTA  – Casey Goodwin of Liberty and FGCU’s Dani Serrano & Dana Axner garner this week’s ASUN Conference Volleyball awards, as announced by the league office on Monday. Goodwin’s all-around impressive week helped her earn her second Player of the Week, while Serrano’s and Axner’s defensive prowess helped them take home Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week.

Goodwin has been the leader of Liberty’s successful start in the ASUN. This past week she helped the Flames to a 1-1 record and in the process recorded 35 kills, 4.38 kills/set, 10 digs, six blocks, five aces, a .324 hitting percentage and even tallied a couple of assists. In a five-set loss to FGCU, Goodwin notched 19 total kills, which is her high for an ASUN match this season. Goodwin leads the ASUN in service aces this season and ranks sixth in kills/set at 2.71 and eighth in kills with 195.

Serrano, the ASUN’s best on the block, put her skills on display this past week helping her win Defensive Player of the Week. She tallied 13 total blocks and an average of 1.63 blocks/set in a 2-0 week for the Eagles. In a hard-fought, five-set victory over Liberty, four of Serrano’s seven total blocks came in the fifth and decisive set. She also helped out on the offensive end by totaling 20 total kills and a hitting percentage of .436.

Dana Axner continues to add to her decorated freshman campaign, as she takes home her fourth Freshman of the Week award. She is just one award away from tying UNF’s Gabby O’Connell for the ASUN record and two away from breaking the record. This past week, Axner recorded 46 total digs and an average of 5.75 digs/set in a 2-0 week for FGCU. In FGCU’s sweep of Stetson, she set an FGCU record for most digs in a three-set match with 28. In just 71 sets, she is already in the top-15 in FGCU history for most digs in a single-season. Axner is just 221 digs from the FGCU single-season mark and is on pace to shatter the record.
