Bruno Voloch, one of Brazil’s most important volleyball bloggers, has announced recently that Logan Tom, an American volleyball legend, is being wooed by Brazilian Superliga club Minas Tênis Clube. Rumors have it that coach Stefano Lazarini and current Minas player and also former Team USA national teamer Destinee Hookerwho has recently revived her career with the club and has found a lot support in Brazil’s fanatic volleyball fans, are trying to convince Logan to join them for this season’s title run.

Logan Tom first broke into the volleyball scene as a Stanford standout. In 2001 she was named AVCA National Player of the Year as a Junior, after leading Stanford to the National title. She also won the award in 2002 as a senior, after becoming the third player in NCAA history to be named a First Team All-American for four consecutive years.

Logan Tom has four Olympic games in her resume:

  • Sydney-2000, while still a a sophomore in Stanford
  • Athens-2004
  • Beijing-2008, in which she was the tournament’s best scorer and won the silver medal
  • London-2012, also a silver medal run

Contrary to what most people believe, Logan Tom is not currently officially retired, as she has spent some time in New Zealand coaching, giving volleyball seminars, and playing in amateur events (New Zealand doesn’t have a professional league). She even led club Harbour Raiders to a national title. The last professional team she played for was Indonesia’s Jakarta Pertamina Energy, more than a year ago.

If she does sign with Minas, it will be her second stint with the club, as she also played with them in 2003 on her professional debut after leaving Stanford, and her third stint in Brazil, as she also played for Bernadinho’s Unilever/RJ.
