After five years away from her home-country, recent Long Beach State graduate Nele Barber was announced by Bundesliga’s Wiesbaden as the newest addition to its roster and is ready to start her first real professional season. Born in Berlin, the 23 year old played youth volleyball in Germany, including in its national team, before embarking in an NCAA adventure that netted her AVCA All-American honors in both the sand and indoors modalities of the sport.

She shared her excitement with the team’s fans:

“I’m really looking forward to starting for Wiesbaden next season. After five years abroad, I enjoy coming back to the good old Germany. Sport has always been part of my life, and being able to play professional volleyball is incredible. I hope that I can do my part to be successful with the team.”

Her new coach, Dirk Groß, likewise shared his feelings:

“This season we will rely heavily no only on Barber’s attack prowess, but also on her receiving talent. With us, she should get a good headstart in her professional volleyball career.”

Barber will be joined in the team by recent American addition and former Michigan State star Holly Tolliver.
