Louisiana State Head Coach Russell Brock talked with VolleyMob about his teams success this season, the CCSA tournament, and what he hopes his team can accomplish during the NCAA national tournament.

Riding the success of its freshman duo Claire Coppola and Kristen Nuss, LSU has won 20 games in a row to close out the regular season with a 24-5 record, including a perfect 8-0 record at home. When asked about the success of his team, Brock had nothing but praise for his team. “They train hard, they work hard, they dedicate themselves to the craft and they try their best to do what we ask them to do and when they do it now, we are talented and deep enough – with out pairs playing well enough – to win every time we step out on the court.”

“This is the goal when you have a program is to continue to improve and develop your roster and train your system well enough that you can compete every time you step out onto the sand.” Brock is currently in his third season as head coach at LSU and has proven himself as the head coach.

With each new season, Brock’s team has broken the winning record. This season, LSU has won 24 games so far. “We work had for the girls and we are always trying to step up our game. They do a great job of focusing their efforts on working on the things that can make them successful. You know that is the key to the game – the game isn’t too incredibly complex, so if you do certain things really well you give yourself a better opportunity to win.”

Freshman duo Claire Coppola and Kristen Nuss have earned the #1 spot on the roster. In their first season together, the pair have posted a 23-4 record that includes a 15-2 record as the #1 team. Coppola and Nuss’ record includes seven wins over ranked opponents and six wins over top-10 teams.

Brock mentioned the tough start to the season the team had, facing five top-10 teams. Brock feels like that really set the tone for the season, stating that they knew there was not any other option than to play really, really hard every time they stepped onto the sand.

With the NCAA tournament coming up, Brock is hopeful that his team will perform well. “We don’t take anything for granted. We know that there are a lot of teams that are really good and have been playing really well, especially down the stretch. Our job is just to continue to play at the highest level that we can and continue to improve our resume.”
