Minas Gerais Will Host the South American Club Championship

Brazil will host the men’s and women’s South American Club Championships in Minas Gerais this year. South America’s leading club teams will be playing in this tournament.

Minas Gerais is the second most populous and 4th largest state in Brazil.

The women’s South American Club Championship is from February 12-19 at Praia lube de Uberlandia in Uberaba. The teams that will be playing are Rexona, Club Atletico Villa Dora, Boca Juniors from Argentina, Club Olympic of Bolivia and Peru’s Club Martin University of Peru.

The winner from this tournament will be the new South American Club Championship and will qualify for the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship in Japan from May 8-14.

A total of 8 teams from around the world play at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship and club Hisamitsu Springs from Japan automatically qualifies for being the host team. NEC Red Rockets from Japan qualify by winning the 2016 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship. Two more teams will have to qualify from Europe and South America and there are 4 wild card entries.

The men’s South American Club Championship is from February 19-26 and will be played at the Tancredo Neves Coliseum in Montes Claros. The World and South American champions Sada Cruzeiro and Montes Claros will be in the tournament as well as Club San Martin from Bolivia, Club Bohemios from Uruguay, Club Unilever from Peru, and USL Montjoly from French Guiana.
