After former University of Hawaii’s recent graduate Jennings Franciskovic went down with an injury, Modena was left with only one setter in its roster, team legend Bruno Rezende (Bruninho). This quickly prompted the team’s management to go to the transfer market and look for a solution. It came in the form of Chono Panchev. The 23 year old 6’7″ Bulgarian setter’s signing was announced today in the team’s official website. He last played for Greece’s Iraklis Thessaloniki. Here are his words upon being signed by one of the best teams in the world:
Playing Modena is a dream come true, this is a great opportunity for me and I will try to exploit in the best way. The group welcomed me as best they could not, I’m available to coach Stoytchev and ready to give everything to this shirt .
Chono comes from a volleyball family. His twin brother, Rozalin Panchev, is currently playing in Argentina for Personal Bolivar, and his older brother, Nikolay Panchev,, is a member of Bulgaria men’s national volleyball team and Polish club PGE Skra Bełchatów, aside form participant at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Modena is currently in second place of Serie A after 8 games. Here is how it welcomed Chono in its official Instagram page:
Chono Penchev is officially a new player at Modena Volley! The young Bulgarian was satisfied and happy with this new adventure, and we are ready to welcome it with all our yellow heat!
