After finishing 4th in the Italian Serie A league, Modena Volley will bring Italian middle blocker Alberto Marra from their developmental team to their top team for the upcoming season. The 6’7″ (206cm) middle blocker will be the youngest member on the Modena roster at age 18, but showed strong promise after being a part of the Italian National Team at the FIVB Men’s Volleyball U21 World Championships, where Italy finished in 9th place. Marra did not see playing time during the course of the World Championships.

Marra is excited for this opportunity, noting in a press conference with Modena, “Knowing I’m going to be part of the first team was something fantastic and I thank the company for this huge opportunity. Training with big champions will surely help me grow.”

Modena GM and volleyball legend Andrea Sartoretti pointed out, “Alberto Marra is one of the youngsters who has been more exposed during the last few seasons in our youth teams.” Modena finished 20-6 the previous season, losing in the semi-finals to the Serie A champion Lube Civitanova. The ‘youngster’ will compete against Elia Bossi, Max Holt, and Daniele Mazzone for playing time this upcoming season.
