The #5 seed Nebraska Cornhuskers have advanced to the final 16 after dominating the visiting Washington State Cougars in Lincoln, Nebraska. Set scores were 25-13, 25-13, and 25-18. Bri Holman led the Nebraska offense with 12 kills (.421), while Kelly Hunter posted 35 assists and nine digs. The Huskers will face the winner of Colorado/Baylor.

The Cougars were led by Taylor Mims who collected nine kills, but the team hit just .033 for the match. Washington State finishes the season at 18-16.

The Huskers jumped out to a 5-0 lead to start off the match before the Cougars got on the board. Jazz Sweet fired a kill from the right side and lead ballooned to 12-5 and Nebraska never looked back as the claimed the first set in quick fashion.

Set two was much of the same with Nebraska racing out to a 12-3 lead, forcing a timeout from Washington State. Back-to-back kills from Lauren Stivrins grew the lead to 19-8, and Huskers closed out the set on a crush from Holman.

It was wash, rinse and repeat in set three for Nebraska. An ace from Mikaela Foecke built a 7-3 lead, and although the Cougars were able to close the lead to two points on multiple occasions, the Cornhuskers had too much fire power. Nebraska booked a spot in the regionals on a huge double block.

We did a nice job tonight,” Nebraska coach John Cook said. “Our block and defense was really good and our serving was relentless.”
