Cal State Northridge opposite Arvis Greene has missed the last two matches due to a lower body injury he suffered against Princeton on Jan. 6.
Greene reportedly was not planning to play against UC Merced on Jan. 12 regardless of his injury status, but had hoped to be back for Wednesday’s match against No. 16 Stanford. He was “not quite ready and is still day to day”
The No. 8 Matadors didn’t need Greene in the lineup against the Cardinal with sophomore outside Ksawery Tomsia picking up the slack with team highs of 12 kills, five aces and five digs. CSUN won via sweep, marking its first sweep in Palo Alto since 2013.
In 2018, Greene has averaged 3.90 kills per set and a added 10 aces and 1.00 digs per set. He notched 15 kills, six digs, two blocks and two aces in the season opener against Saint Francis, while hitting at a .429 clip. The Los Angeles native then added 10 kills and four aces against NJIT. He downed 14 kills and notched four aces and three stuffs against Princeton.
Greene earned honorable mention All-America honors in 2017, the first for a CSUN player since 2010, after averaging 3.99 kills per set and putting down 19 double-digit kill efforts. The opposite played for the U.S. Men’s National Team at the Pan American Games in July.
Northridge is set to play Concordia-Irvine at 10 p.m. ET Friday and then has a six-day layoff before facing Lewis, Jan. 25.
