Canadian duo Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes will face off against Brazilian duo Agatha Bednarczuk and Eduarda “Duda” Lisboa for the FIVB Rio Four-Star title in Barra da Tijuca on Sunday morning. Pavan and Humana-Paredes cruised through the semifinals, while Agatha/Duda fought through a three-set battle to the finish to earn their spot in the championship match.
No. 11 seed Pavan/Humana-Paredes defeated seventh seeded Barbora Hermannova and Marketa Slukova of the Czech Republic 21-19, 21-19 in the first semifinal. The FIVB finals appearance marks the fourth for Pavan, although all without a title, while this is the first in 31 international appearances for Humana-Paredes. The duo made the semifinals by taking out Olympic champions Laura Lugwig and Kira Walkenhorst Saturday morning.
